AGILE, ADAPTIVE, ACTIONABLE: The 3As of insights-driven business transformation

The COO of a fast-growing luxury brand is sifting through sales data from 800+ locations all over the world. The business leader – who has spent over 40 years in the luxury segment – has had a front-row seat to the advent of using data and business intelligence to drive decision-making.

As he sifts through this sales data – filtering it by product and by geography – he notices some key signals. He has a clear “signal” when a particular product category does very well in Asia but fails in the Middle East. He spots several such trends – each of which depends on product features, pricing, marketing campaign success, and so on.

But he sees a clear opportunity to use BI and advanced analytics to drive agility and nimbleness into the business.

Yes, the data analytics tools and visual dashboards do help the COO identify macro trends and spot important signals. But, it was still a slow, “human-in-the-loop” process of converting this signal into an insight. Of course, post-insight generation, it was a long-drawn-out process to convert this into a set of actions.

“Moving forward from spotting a trend or a signal to actionable insights to an operational game plan had to be quicker, more efficient,” he told himself.

He knew his business had to adapt. The world was changing fast. Retail trends were changing. Consumers were becoming more demanding. His business has to keep pace. The business leader wanted to generate real-time insights from real-time data. In other words, he was looking for an agile BI approach, one that would drive insights-driven business transformation.

In one of our upcoming webinars, with a guest speaker from Forrester, we cover this exact subject.

The “3As” of Business Transformation using BI and Analytics

What do you think is the next frontier of data-enabled decision-making? At Orbit, we think one key trend is going to be around delivering insights-driven business transformation.

So, what does this mean? It means business transformation has to be about the following 3As:

AGILE. ADAPTIVE. ACTIONABLE.

  • Agile enterprises have to find a way to quickly move from data to insights, rapidly.
  • Based on new signals and real-time data coming in, businesses have to adapt and be nimble in making changes
  • There is no point in gathering data for the sake of it. It needs to be actionable. Insights have to be converted into actions that drive business operations.
